Using Mapit GIS Cloud

Creating an organisation

Mapit GIS Cloud is built for teams, and works for one person too. An organisation is your place in it: the people, their roles, the cloud projects they collect into, and the capacity you pay for.

Not open yet

Creating an organisation opens when Mapit GIS Cloud launches. Until then, you can join an organisation only by accepting an invitation from one.

What an organisation is

Everything in Mapit GIS Cloud belongs to an organisation: its cloud projects, its attribute sets, its WFS layers and web maps. The people in it each hold a role, which decides what they may do there, and you can belong to more than one organisation with a different role in each.

The capacity is the organisation’s too: paid seats, viewer places, storage and processing credits. Seats, viewer places and storage explains them.

Who creates it, and how it is paid for

The person who creates an organisation becomes its admin: they own it, choose its settings, and pay for it. It is created and paid for on this website, with a card, as a business purchase: the Mapit GIS Cloud organisation subscription. Nothing about it is bought in the Mapit GIS app.

It comes on one of two plans. Team is for a crew: paid seats for managers and contributors, viewer places and storage. Personal is for one person working alone: the admin, who designs, collects and syncs, with viewer places for clients and storage. A Personal organisation can upgrade to Team at any time and keeps everything it has. Seats, viewer places and storage.

The admin needs no app licence. Running an organisation, inviting people and setting their roles all happen on the web. If the admin also collects in the field, they need Mapit Pro or Pro+ like anybody else who collects. Pro or Pro+ for collecting.

When your account is made

You give your email address, the organisation’s name and what it is for, and confirm your address with a code. Your account and the organisation are made only when the payment is confirmed. If you stop before paying, or the payment does not go through, nothing is created and nothing is kept for long.

That is one of only two ways an account comes into being. The other is accepting an invitation. The Mapit GIS app signs you in to an account you already have; it does not create one.

Building the team

Once the organisation exists, the admin invites people by email and gives each one a role: Manager, Contributor or Viewer. Managers and contributors take paid seats; viewers take viewer places; the admin’s own place is included. On Personal, the admin invites viewers only. Invitations and Roles say what happens next.

The admin role can be handed to an active manager or contributor in the organisation, never to a viewer, and the other person has to accept it.
