Using Mapit GIS Cloud

Taking your data out, and deleting it

Your data is never locked in: a cloud project exports as an ordinary GeoPackage, and your own account data downloads as a file. Deleting is deliberate, and each kind says exactly what it removes.

A job collecting, then closed to new work while still handing out the file, then exported
A project collects, is closed to new work while still handing out its file, and is exported.

Exporting a cloud project

On the cloud project’s page, Export as GeoPackage gives you the whole project as it is in Mapit Cloud now, as a file that opens in QGIS or any GIS. It works for an open or a closed project. Download attachment list adds one line per photo or video, to match the files collected from the phones. Admins and managers can do both.

Editing an exported file changes nothing in Mapit Cloud.

Downloading your own data

Download my data, on your profile or in Mapit Cloud in the app, gives you one file with what Mapit Cloud holds about you: your profile, your personal attribute sets, the organisations you belong to and your devices. It is about you, not your organisation: the organisation’s projects are its own, and exported as above.

Deleting a cloud project

A project is closed before it can be deleted, and it cannot be deleted while a WFS is published from it: the page lists what uses it, so you can unpublish first. Then type its name and confirm.

  • It is removed from Mapit Cloud: its features, releases and history. Stored copies are permanently removed within 30 days.
  • Copies on phones are not deleted. Each phone is told at its next sync, and keeps its copy as a personal project for its user to keep or delete.
  • Files you exported are not affected.

Deleting your account

From your profile or the app. It removes your cloud account and your personal data and cannot be undone; download your data first if you want a copy. It does not cancel your app subscription or licence. Work you synced into an organisation stays with the organisation, and projects on your phone are not touched. If you own an organisation, hand it over or delete it first.

Deleting an organisation

Only its owner can, and only on this website, never from the app: after confirming its name and a code sent by email, the organisation is scheduled for deletion in 30 days. Everybody in it is told and sees a notice, crews can still sync and export, and the owner can keep it at any time until then.

On the day, its subscription has ended and it is deleted: its encryption key goes with it, so its stored data is unreadable at once, and the storage itself is then reclaimed. Everybody is told. Copies on phones and in exports stay where they are.

If the organisation’s subscription ends

When an organisation’s cloud subscription is cancelled or not paid, the organisation becomes read only for 90 days. Crews can still sync what they collected and export it; nothing new can be created. Everybody is emailed with the date, reminded two weeks before it, and sees a notice on every organisation page.

Subscribing again before the date keeps everything as it was. After it, the organisation is deleted as above, and everybody is told. Copies on phones and in exports stay where they are.
