Keeping the app up to date
Everybody in a cloud project has to understand what the others send. So when a new version of Mapit GIS changes what a sync carries, Mapit Cloud asks older versions to update before they sync again. Nothing on the phone is lost while it waits.
Why it asks
A sync carries more than features: a new version can add something every phone must read the same way, such as the details of the photos a colleague took. An older app would miss it or send work its colleagues’ phones could not read. Asking everybody to be on a recent version keeps the whole crew in step.
What you see
The app tells you when you sign in to Mapit Cloud, open it, or sync. The message names the version you need and where to get it:
- Mapit GIS on Android: update it from Google Play.
- Mapit GIS for iPhone and iPad: update it from the App Store.
- Mapit GIS Standalone: install the latest version the same way you installed it.
Then sign in again, and sync.
Nothing is lost
The app keeps working offline, and every project and every unsent change stays on the phone. Only syncing waits. After the update, the next sync sends everything that was waiting.
For admins and managers
When a new version is announced, ask your crew to update before they next go out, ideally over Wi-Fi, so nobody finds out on site with no signal to download it. The same rule applies to everybody who syncs, admins and managers included.
