Adding a project on the portal
Admins and managers can start a new cloud project on this site: name it, design its layers and fields, and publish it. Until it is published it is a draft that only they can see.
Starting a project
On Content, choose Add project. It opens the Project designer, where New project asks for a name; you can also start from an existing project or a survey template. The button is shown to the organisation’s admin and managers while the organisation’s subscription is active.
The project opens as a draft. It is listed on Content, marked Draft project, not published, for the admin and managers only. Nothing has been created for the crew yet: no phone, WFS or web map can see a draft.
Designing it
The draft opens in the same editor as Edit structure. Add layer asks for a name and what it collects: points, lines or polygons. Like every layer the apps create, it is in WGS 84 and comes with a Name field. Add field asks for a name and one of six types: Text, Integer, Decimal, Yes/No, Date, and Date & Time. Text and number fields can be Required, and any field can have a default value.
Everything in a draft can be renamed, changed or taken out. Your work is saved as you make it, so you can leave and carry on later from any computer, and every admin and manager sees the same draft.
Publishing it
Publish project is offered once at least one layer has at least one field of your own. Until then the page says what is missing. Publishing lists what will be created and asks you to confirm; Mapit Cloud then checks the design and creates the project at version 0, with your layers and fields and no features. Anything it cannot accept is listed in plain words, nothing is created, and the draft stays as it was.
A published project opens on its own page, like a project uploaded from the app, and the draft is gone. It is private: share it with the crew, or with a group, from Content. Each person then downloads it from the Mapit Cloud tab of Manage projects in the app.
From then on its structure changes the way every cloud project’s does: with Edit structure on this site, or a draft in the app, and a release.
Deleting a draft
A draft can be deleted from Content or from its own page. It was never published, so nothing else goes with it.
A draft nobody has changed for six months is removed.
